Gary Caldwell was sacked by Chesterfield last September

Former Wigan Athletic and Chesterfield boss Gary Caldwell is interested in the vacant manager`s role at Bradford City, Sky Sports News understands.

The Bantams sacked Stuart McCall on Monday after a run of six consecutive defeats in all competitions.

Despite a poor start to the year, they remain in the play-off places in League One and Caldwell, who led Wigan to promotion out of the division in 2016, is understood to be keen to talk to Bradford.

After retiring in February 2015, the former Scotland international joined the Latics` coaching staff before taking charge in April the same year, following the sacking of Malky Mackay.

The 35-year-old`s most recent managerial role came at League Two Chesterfield, but he was dismissed just nine months into the job in September after a poor start to the season.

Bradford have told SSN that the process to find McCall`s replacement is already underway and the club will work through applications in the next few days.
