Russia international Ruslan Kambolov is under investigation for potential doping, the country`s deputy Prime Minister Vitaly Mutko has revealed.
Mutko, who is overseeing the government`s World Cup preparations, has informed state news agency Tass he has been made aware of FIFA investigating Rubin Kazan defender Kambolov.
The 28-year-old has featured twice for the national team, making his debut in 2015 and playing once again during a friendly with Chile in 2017.
Mutko, however, has stated the case is not linked to the national team.
The deputy Prime Minister has also confirmed a FIFA investigation is to be conducted into Ivan Knyazev, a former defender for the Russian national U21 team.
Mutko says both players have given evidence and we`ll see where it goes.
