Brighton will hold further talks with the FA as they continue efforts to appoint technical director Dan Ashworth to a similar role at the Amex Stadium, Sky Sports News understands.
The Premier League club have been courting Ashworth for several weeks, having searched for a technical director since before the World Cup in Russia.
Ashworth, 47, who joined the FA from West Brom in 2012, has also been linked with similar roles at Manchester United and Chelsea in recent weeks.
He created the `England DNA` - an elite player development plan to help create winning senior teams, in the men`s and the women`s game - and the FA are understood to be keen for him to remain in his role at St George`s Park.
His reputation continues to grow after England`s successful World Cup campaign following on from age-group tournament wins for England at the U17s and U20s World Cup, while England`s U19s won the European Championships.
